The Leadership Academy for Student Success is a year-long experience that develops the skills of mid-level faculty, staff, and administrators at community colleges. It prepares participants to implement evidence-based practices that contribute to improved student outcomes.

The Leadership Academy:

  • Prepares mid-level practitioners — those below the level of vice president — to implement evidence-based reforms that improve student outcomes. Participants include a broad cross-section of community college faculty and staff. Typically, each cohort includes about one-third academic affairs faculty and staff; one-third student services staff; and one-third operational staff, including institutional research, information technology, finance, and workforce development staff.
  • Builds individual colleges’ capacity by creating a stronger bench of reform-minded practitioners throughout the institution.
  • Expands the pipeline of future senior leaders and helps colleges with succession planning.
  • Enhances the statewide network of reform-minded practitioners who are invested in improving student outcomes.

The Leadership Academy for Student Success, which was created by the Ohio Association of Community Colleges, is built on seven years of success in four states, training close to 430 individuals at 110 colleges.

It is led by the National Center for Inquiry & Improvement (NCII) in partnership with the Aspen Institute’s College Excellence Program. Since 2023, the work has been funded by Ascendium, ECMC Foundation, and The Kresge Foundation.
